Sisterhood & Self-Love

I wanted to get a little personal with you today and talk about sisterhood and self-love. In the past, I’ve spoken about our universal need for support. How do you feel about where you are with that? Do you have a supportive group of women in your life? Do you make self-love/self-care a priority?

We are the care-takers and the nurturers. I totally get it. We are busy managing our families and careers and all that entails. I know that I used to place myself pretty far down my list of priorities on a daily basis. My kids, husband, boss/job all seemed to come first.

And I realized I was miserable.

I was not doing myself or anyone else any favors by continually ignoring my own needs. I took stock and concluded that I was happiest when I was taking time for myself and especially when I was connecting with other women. When I felt supported by community.

The Support of Sisterhood

Now I choose to make sisterhood a priority in my life. Something truly magical happens when women gather together and connect and support each other. (It’s like spanxx for your psyche.) Whether it’s the traditional sisterhood of familial bonds or sorority sisters, entrepreneurial networking or a crafting circle, a bowling team or a lunch bunch… women supporting other women is the secret-power we need to be able change the world.

“Women understand. We may share experiences, make jokes, paint pictures, and describe humiliations that mean nothing to men, but women understand. The odd thing about these deep and personal connections of women is that they often ignore barriers of age, economics, worldly experience, race, culture — all the barriers that, in male or mixed society, had seemed so difficult to cross.”
